There are FOUR types of festivals-happenings: seasonal theatrical shows in English, local Plaka traditional fests, Orthodox (religious) ones and Athens’ Summer activities.
Plaka festivals
Plaka celebrates twice per year: the first in every February, with Apocrea, and the second on Easter, during spring. Of course there are two more occasion you may wish to found yourself in Athens, on New Years’ Eve, and on August Full Moon, when all archaeological sites are open.
Orthodox festivals
While walking around Plaka, Athens and Greece, especially during summer, numerous Orthodox church celebrations take place and you can find a calendar of Plaka churches celebrations.
One event that is celebrated is at Ragavas church for Greek independence War of 1821, on March 25th each year.
Enjoy a festival experience of Athens, either Orthodox or other!!
