From Athens to Evia

Either by boat, ferry or road you can experience Evia. Here are the ways to pass from Athens and Attica to Evia and the ports and bridges that connect the city with the magic island.

Athens- Chalkida

Of course Chalkida or Halkida is a port, and you can get there by car, one hour drive from Athens center. You can get there by bus, KTEL as is called in Greek.

The two bridges of Euripus Strait

On the way you have the opportunity to pass from the famous Halkida bridge, a project completed in 1990’s. There is also the old bridge or sliding or low of Euripus Strait, that can slide away to allow shipping traffic. It is located at the narrowest point of the strait, where it is only 38 m  wide.

Oropos- Eretria

You can get to Oropos from Attica easily, with two ways the first following the way from Marathon and continue north (not highly recommended) and the other from the national highway as well. Oropos has a port that connects Attica with Eretria by ferry. The trip lasts 35 minutes and is the shortest, and closest to Athens.

Near Oropos there is the Sanctuary and Oracle of Amphiaraos, open in summer months.

Eretria is located close to Chalkida and there is a museum as well there, where the famous Lefkanti hero artifact can be seen.

Agia Marina- Styra

Another place from where you can take the ferry with your car of course, to Evia is Agia Marina, connecting with a place southern in Evia, Styra. You can see the boats available here, and the journey lasts 40 minutes.

Rafina- Marmari

One more place that is southern in Evia, is Karystos, a town, connected by Marmari port. Here is the link for that travel. The journey lasts 60 minutes.

Arkitsa- Edipsos

If you are northern, around Thermopylae or Lamia in central Greece and want to pass to Evia, you can easily pass using the ferry from Arkitsa port.

Edipsos or Aidipsos is a famous spa center, since antiquity. Today is a modern city with one of the most prestigious spa hotels in Greece.
