Athens Walking Parks

Anybody has heard about many parks around Athens and Attica, but real experience shows that very few have some prerequisites that make them names as “parks”. Many confuse them with hills and other places. 

Here is a top-10 list for you, including distance and program.

  1. Zappeion and National Garden. Closest to Syntagma square and metro, the park is open during the sunlight, it closes at night. 
  2. Pedion tou Areos. Between Omonia and Viktoria metro station, from “Champ de Mars” in French, a real vivid area, that is open 24/7. 
  3. Pangrati Grove. Located at the center of Athens, the smallest of all, easily accessible.  
  4. Syggrou Estate or Alsos Sygrou (Alsos is the Greek name for a park). It is located at the north suburbs of Athens, near Kifisia. You can access it by metro line 1, KAT station. It is open and you can walk around agricultural planning in a really quite area, next to busy Kifissias avenue. 
  5. Nea Smyrni Park or Alsos Neas Smyrnis. Really close to Tram line, Agias Fotinis station. 
  6. Nea Filadelfia Park or Alsos Neas Filadelfias. Nea Filadelphia, exactly as the US Philadelfia, is named after the ancient Ionia city, from Greek population that left modern Turkey and immigrate to Greece, in 1922. It is the home of football team AEK Athens. There is a famous park, quite vast, where you can walk and run. 
  7. Tritsis park. Located at the western side of Athens, it was named after an Athens mayor, Antonis Tritsis. A huge area, used for concerts, now open for walking. 
  8. Alsos Kifisias. Right next to the Kifisia Metro Line 1, a very nice, not too big, but calm and cosy. It is famous during spring, since a flower Show, Kifissia Flower Show takes place every year.  
  9. Diomedes Botanical Garden. Here you need a ticket- FREE- to enter, since it is a property of the University of Athens! located at the western side of Athens, on the way to Elefsina
  10. Rafina Park, the furthest from all the before mentioned. It is located on the way to Rafina port and close to archeological site of Vravrona. A place for kids and kids parties.
